Introduction to K9 Nose Work®

In this course you and your dog will learn the basic concepts and foundation skills of K9 Nose Work®.  Your dog will learn that searching produces rewards such as treat or toys.  The purpose of this first six-week course is to build your dog’s intensity and drive for the search and to introduce handler skills and responsibilities.  Odor will not be introduced in this introductory class.

 

  • Fee: $150 for 4 - 6 classes

  • Location: Various locations - Instructor will contact you with class locations.

  • Pre-requisites: None.

Continuing Introduction to K9 Nose Work® - Road Trip

In this course you and your dog will continue to strengthen the foundation skills introduced in the introductory course.  You will continue to build your dog’s intensity and drive and sharpen your skills as a handler.  We will introduce new environmental factors by holding class at different locations each week.

 

  • Fee: $150 for 4 - 6 classes

  • Location: Various locations - Instructor will contact you with class locations.

  • Pre-requisites: Introduction to K9 Nose Work® or instructor’s approval.

Introduction to Exteriors and Vehicles

In this course you and your dog will be introduced to exterior and vehicle searches.  More environmental distractions will be present in exterior and vehicle searches keeping the search exciting and challenging for you and your dog.  Teams will continue to refine skills such as leash management techniques, safety, and correct reward delivery. 

 

  • Fee: $150 for 4 - 6 classes

  • Location: Various locations - Instructor will contact you with class locations.

  • Pre-requisites: Introduction to K9 Nose Work® and Continuing Introduction to K9 Nose Work® or instructor’s approval.

Introduction to Odor

In this course we will introduce the dogs to the three essential oils used in K9 Nose Work® during their searches of all 4 elements.  We will pair the odor of the oil with the dog’s primary reward (food or toy) in order to create a positive association between the odor and the reward.

 

  • Fee: $150 for 4 - 6 classes

  • Location: Various locations - Instructor will contact you with class locations.

  • Pre-requisites: Introduction to K9 Nose Work®, Continuing Introduction to K9 Nose Work®, and Introduction to Exteriors and Vehicles or instructor’s approval.

Continuing K9 Nose Work®

This will be the ongoing course for those teams who want to continue building off the nose work skills started in the foundation courses.  This class will continue to build handler and team skills and introduce more complex problem-solving exercises and scent challenges.

 

  • Fee: $165 for 6 classes

  • Location: Various locations - Instructor will contact you with class locations.

  • Pre-requisites: Introduction to Odor or instructor’s approval.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available upon request.  However, human aggressive dogs will not be accepted.  Travel fees may be incurred and facility rental fees, if required, are an additional cost.

NOTE: While most dogs can participate in and enjoy K9 Nose Work®, group classes are NOT appropriate for aggressive dogs.  All dogs must be crate trained and remain crated while not actively searching.
